FFLIC is dedicated to ending the school to prison pipeline that continues to criminalize our children robbing them of valuable classroom time and educational opportunities!
Right now across America and here in Louisiana there is a crisis: black children are being arrested at alarming rates for playing. Behavior that was once a trip to the principal’s office or a letter to the parents is now often treated as a suspendable or even criminal offense.
Eighty percent of all arrest made in the Louisiana school districts are of black children who make up just 42% of the total student body. Instead of constructive interventions, these children face criminal records that can permanently push them out of school and into the school-to-prison pipeline.
Why do our children continue to be viewed as PROBLEMS, when in reality many of our children HAVE problems that most do not have the support or resources to cope with?
Who will you get to speak out for your child or other family member if they are one day negatively impacted by the zero tolerance policies being instituted around the country as a way to handle a child’s challenging behavior?
